logos

so picking from the newest logo post of Annie's 6+8 and lindsay's 1

 - annie

made these from our choice from last friday
- Razia.

updated logos! Lindsay

More logo options from me too! (lindsay)

*I also made some basic signage composition ideas pertaining to the look & feel of these logos. see the "signage" blog entry*

Here are more of the logos I made today. Since we said we are focusing more on the residential area, i was trying to make logos that depicted the community + the neighbourhood - Razia

INTERACTIVE IDEAS AND CONCEPTS

concept outline:
interactive movement + location light mural
- sensors placed around parameter of McLean Park ; detects movement + location relativity
- lines track movement, shows where people are in the park, and density of line overlapping is relative to movement, more dark areas = more popular
- colours are relative to logo palette
- different areas of park show up as different colours
- projections look different every day
- new projections begin everyday; computer saves image of data everyday for a year, by the end it reprojects all images in collage
- *somehow be able to save your location + show it on the projection?*
-use phone to locate self on projection; get updates of projection through phone?

storyboard:

1. people walk/run through park
2. colourful lines begin to emerge throughout the day (depending on where you walk/run in park)
3. darker areas of lines begin to emerge
4. people can engage in playful interaction, run/walk around and see how mural begins to change
5. use cell to show your location relative to mural; will be able to see where you are and the amount of other people that have passed through same place as you

Razia's Interactive Concept:

Check these sketches that people have done on Open Processing that have
provided me with inspiration and some ideas on how to develop this idea:

Nematode
Rose Equation
Magnetic bubbles
Network Graph

My Interactive proposal: we create something that builds the community together, something that brings them together in their everyday activities. My idea is that we have a permanent projection on a wall near Strathcona Park.

We have sound sensors around the park that can detect people walking, running, jumping, or any sort of movement that touches the ground (people walking dogs, children on play ground, any movement surrounding the area) . Depending on how fast people walk and how much pressure is applied, the projection and sensors work together to produce colorful circles.

More pressure = bigger circles
More movement = more circles

Depending on the time of the day there will be sets of specific colors that will project

Example

Morning: Yellow + Blue + Orange
Noon: Red + Turquoise + Purple
Night: Yellow + Orange + Red

Summary:

Circles and colors represent Strathcona; it is a colorful district of Vancouver,
It has a lot of heritage and it is a growing community. It has history yet it needs to be modern and not completely lose its historical sense. This interactive installation would give the community a sense of place they live in and enjoy the random projections that will be different every time. It would also bring children and families together and just have fun with the projections.

Rough sketch i did:

LOGO IDEAS AND CONCEPT

ANNIE :
- hand drawn
- craft
- simple lines
- houses
- roof
- fences

RAZIA:

Next Steps for our Group

To look at the problem:

In Strathcona, its hard to identify it's characteristic unlike Gas town or Yale town it has a very clear idea where you are.

Deliverables:
  1. Identity ( in the form of a logo or wordmark) for your teams neighbourhood (L , R)
  2. Signage (eg. a bench) or installation that will be placed in the neighbourhood (K, A)
  3. The enviromental component must include the following:
  •  an application of the identity (K , A)
  •  text which provides context for the neighbourhood ( open ended: can be historically based. urban myth, in for about a local artist, style of architecture. etc.) (K, A)
  • directions to local sights/ monuments/ buildings relevant to the neighbourhood. keep in mind that directional signage can be subtle and well integrated into your design. (L , R)
  • an interactive component.  (L , R)
To look at its ....
Value, architecture, businesses, sights, colors, styles, history, first words/ impression/ images.

Interviews

Okay, So here are the interviews that Razia and I did on Sunday morning.

Interview 1
Interview 2
Interview 3
Interview 4

These are the ones that worked -______-
Sorry about number three, the picture keeps zooming in and out, which is super annoying, so just listen to the audio. Overall, we found that some of the key things we can work with are:

- Strathcona's Multicultural Environment
- The division between Strathcona and the Downtown Eastside
- How everyone seems to mesh together in a 'neighborly' way
- How the oldest neighborhood in vancouver is changing, becoming more expensive, and being remodeled in some cases.
